Moving out of college can be stressful, but moving back home after graduation can also be challenging. Here are some tips to make sure you’re prepared when you move back home.
1. Plan Ahead
You may think you’ll just pack everything up and head back home right away, but planning ahead is key to making sure you have all the essentials before you leave campus. For example, you’ll need to plan ahead so you can find a place to stay and figure out how much money you’ll need to cover rent, utilities, groceries, etc.
2. Don’t Overpack
Don’t overpack! You won’t need every single item listed below, but packing too much stuff can lead to unnecessary stress and weight issues. Pack only what you absolutely need.
3. Check Your Student ID Card
Make sure your student ID card still works. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to replace it before you go home.
4. Bring Cash
Bringing cash instead of a debit/credit card makes life easier when you arrive home. Plus, you’ll avoid having to wait until payday to buy things like food and gas.
5. Know Where You’re Going
Before you leave campus, print out directions to your parents’ house. Also, look up local grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and anything else you might need.
6. Have a Backup Phone Number
It’s best to have a backup phone number in case yours gets lost or stolen.
7. Create a Budget Before Leaving Home
Create a budget before leaving home so you know exactly how much money you need to spend during your first week back.
8. Be Prepared for Emergencies
